Magnesium Alloy Plate for Vibration Testing Equipment
AZ31B plate material for slip plates, head plates and vibration test fixtures
Magnesium alloy plates are widely used in vibration testing equipment, shaker systems, test fixtures and head expanders where low weight and vibration damping are important. Hilbo supplies AZ31B and other magnesium alloy plates for custom-machined vibration test components
Hilbo supplies AZ31B magnesium alloy plate for manufacturers machining components for vibration test systems. If you are sourcing magnesium plate for a slip table, head plate or custom vibration test fixture, send us your dimensions, quantity and material requirements for a quotation.
We offer custom-size plate supply for projects where low moving mass and machinability matter. Plate dimensions, temper, tolerances and inspection requirements are reviewed for each order.![]()
A shaker must accelerate the test specimen together with its fixture and other moving components. Reducing tooling mass can leave more of the available force capacity for the test specimen, subject to the shaker’s operating limits. Magnesium offers lower density than conventional aluminium alloys, making it useful when fixture weight is a design constraint.
AZ31B plate can be machined into mounting surfaces, adapter plates and fixture components. Engineers can specify hole patterns, pockets and other features to suit the test item and shaker interface. Machining allowance should be included when ordering the raw plate.
Low weight alone does not determine fixture performance. Plate thickness, geometry, joints and mounting conditions must provide adequate stiffness over the intended frequency range. Magnesium’s damping characteristics can help limit resonance amplification, but they do not replace modal analysis or verification of the completed fixture.
For components designed to be machined from plate, a correctly specified blank provides the starting material for the fixture manufacturer. Cast head expanders and fabricated assemblies may require a different alloy or manufacturing route. The final component design should guide material selection.
| Application | How magnesium plate is used |
| Horizontal slip plates | Material for the moving plate in a horizontal slip table. Finished flatness, surface quality and the drive interface must match the table design. |
| Head plates and plate-based head expanders | Blanks for machined mounting plates that extend the usable mounting area. Larger or complex expanders may instead use cast or fabricated structures. |
| Vibration test fixtures | Material for mounting plates and components of L-shaped, T-shaped and other custom fixtures, subject to engineering approval. |
| Adapter plates | Plate stock for connecting a test specimen or fixture to the shaker or slip plate with the specified mounting pattern. |
These applications may support testing of automotive components, electronics, aerospace equipment and other industrial products. Acceptance of the finished tooling depends on the test requirements and the equipment designer’s validation.

Yes. AZ31B magnesium plate is used in slip plates and vibration fixture components. The appropriate temper and product specification depend on the design, loading and machining requirements. Your fixture designer should approve the material for the intended application.
The alloy designation alone does not define every requirement of a tooling plate. Temper, processing route, flatness, residual stress control and inspection requirements may differ. If your drawing specifies AZ31B-TP or a particular tooling plate specification, include it with your enquiry so we can review the requirements before quoting.
Yes. Send the required thickness, width, length and quantity. We will review the size and confirm availability or a production proposal. If you are machining the plate, please specify the blank size including the required machining allowance.
There is no single thickness suitable for every system. The choice depends on plate span, specimen mass, acceleration, frequency range, supports and mounting details. Use the approved fixture drawing or an engineering assessment to define the required thickness.
This product page covers magnesium alloy plate material for further machining. If you also need machining or other processing, send your drawing so the scope and feasibility can be reviewed separately.
Please provide the alloy and temper, plate dimensions, quantity, tolerances, required inspection documents, delivery destination and target delivery date. A drawing is helpful when special requirements apply.
